June has been a busy month for the Alliance. We have participated in the first ever Seafood Summit in Chicago Illinois. June 15th The Alliance teamed up the Shedd Aquarium and their Right Bite program, TOC and EDF  to bring the success story of the Gulf red snapper to the Chicago seafood industry. The take away message from the workshop was education, education, education. It seems that most people do not know about the IFQ program and the strides that the red snapper is making toward total recovery. The conservation efforts within the commercial fishing sector have flown under the radar is other parts of the United States. The Alliance and our team was prepared to share our message. David Krebs spoke of days of derby fishing and how with catchshare program, we are moving toward a sustainable fishery. Attendees of the summit ranged from Wholefoods to Fortune Fish. But the message was well received by all.....it is time to start serving red snapper once again in Chicago. This was our first stop on the education train as we will be making our way through several key "foodie" cities to promote the conservation efforts, catchshare plans for additional reef fish and of course our sustainable red snapper! Insert picture June 16th David and I then were "fortunate" enough to be asked to represent the Alliance at the Fortune Fish monthly open house in Bensonville, IL www.fortunefishco.net . We shared our red snapper success story with chefs, restaurant owners and potential fish buyers. We felt honored to be asked to speak at both events and David and I actually became good at finishing each others sentences.
